On June 12, 2017 The Ludington City Council requested the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to study the conversion of Ludington Avenue between Jackson Road and William Street to a three-lane road on a trial basis. MDOT would like to conduct traffic counts at several intersections on Ludington Avenue. This will be to determine the amount of traffic at these intersections and the movements of vehicles.
A volunteer would be located at the intersections of Ludington Avenue and, Jackson Road, Staffon Street, Madison Avenue, Washington Avenue, Harrison Street, James Street, Rath Avenue, and Robert Street. The traffic counts would take place on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday before the end of August. The traffic counts would occur on 3 different shifts: 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The volunteer would have to remain at the intersection for the entire two- or three-hour shift without taking a break in order to ensure an accurate count of the traffic numbers and turning movements.Once this data is collected MDOT will analyze the results and schedule a public meeting. If anyone is interested in volunteering to be a traffic counter, please contact City Manager, John Shay at (231) 845-6237
