The Salvation Army annual Red Kettle Campaign starts November 3rd and runs through December 24th. The goal for the 2017 season is $25,000. “We are looking for individuals, families and groups to volunteer for bell ringing.” said Tim Danielson, Case Worker for The Salvation Army. Bell ringing shifts are in two hour blocks from 10:00am to 8:00pm, Monday through Saturday during the season, except for Thanksgiving.
“We would really like to see different groups or business challenge each other to see who can bring in the most donations during their shifts,” Danielson continued. The Salvation Army is also looking for businesses to host a “counter kettle.” These are a small donation kettle that can be placed on a customer service counter or next to a tip jar if your location is not able to host a ringer and large kettle.
“The Red Kettle Campaign is our only major fund raiser for the year,” said Danielson. “While we love partnering with local business to host ringing locations, we are also in need to business to offer matching corporate funds. Matching funds can double or triple what individual bell ringers can collect in a day. On average, donations from bell ringing are around $30 per hour.” 100% of the money donated through the Red Kettle Campaign remains in the local Manistee and Benzie counties.
