On Tuesday January 2nd a deputy from the Oceana County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the Shelby Marathon Station for a embezzlement complaint. The owner and his wife, believe their store had suffered a loss of over $35,000 by embezzlement from their store manager. After further investigation, the deputy determined that a large amount of cash, lottery tickets, and some other food items were indeed missing. After an interview with the suspect Angela Smith, 45 from Shelby was arrested.
She has been charged by the Oceana County Prosecutor's Office with Embezzlement by an Agent of $20,000 or more, which is a 15 year felony. Ms. Smith has been arraigned on this charge, and her bond is currently set at $5,000 cash/surety.
