Circus in Scottville!

The circus is coming to Scottville! Children 10 and younger are invited to Circus Day at the Mason County District Library in Scottville, Tuesday, August 6th from 1-4pm. There will be a bouncy house, games and prizes, Pixie's Ponies, and balloon animals with John Marek. Children under 8  must be accompanied by an adult. This event is free. 

Human Trafficking Presentation

The P.E.O. Chapter FG of Ludington invites the public to a special program given by Carmen Kucinich, FBI Victim's Specialist, entitled Human Trafficking: Modern Day Slavery and Victim Assistance. This presentation focuses on domestic minor sex trafficking. This program will be held at the United Methodist Church of Ludington on Tuesday, August 6th from 7 to 8:30pm.

Students may register for ONE class only. Registration forms are available at the Mason County District Libraries in Ludington and Scottville. These classes are free but no-shows will be billed for supplies. Cancellations will be accepted up to 24 hours before the class begins.

Painting will be held Wednesday, August 7th from 10am to 12pm & Thursday, August 8th from 2-4pm at the Ludington Library.

Annual Chicken BBQ

St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Free Soil is having its Annual Chicken BBQ on Sunday, August 11th. Dinner will be served at noon. Cost is $9 for adults, $3 for children 10 and under, preschool children are free. Live music will be provided by Virgil Baker and the Just-4-Fun Band. There will also be children's games, homemade desserts, and a cash raffle with prizes totaling $1,000. Proceeds will go towards the upkeep of St. John Catius Parish.

Jewelry class will teach students how to make wearable art using basic metalsmithing tools and techniques. Students may bring an interesting object to incorporate into a ring or pendant. Classes will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, August 13th and 14th from 10am to 12pm and 1:30 to 3:30pm at the Ludington Library.

Summer Step-Up Blood Drive

The Cross Country Teams at Hart Schools are sponsoring a Summer Step-Up Blood Drive on August 16, from 2:00 until 6:00 at the Hart Middle School Cafeteria.  Blood supplies dwindle during the summer months and donations are crucial.  This is a great opportunity to help save lives and support the cross country teams.   Appointments are appreciated, but walk-ins will be welcomed! The impact of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act on business will be felt by all employers. Local healthcare reform experts will address its impact on small and large businesses. Presenters will be Lindsay Murphy and George Karl from Lenz & Associates. If you are unsure whether your company qualifies, contact Lindsay at 845-6279 prior to registering.

The small employers class (50 or less employees) will be held on Tuesday, August 20th from 8 to 11am at the Stearns Motor Inn.

Large Employees class (50 or more) will be at the Stearns Motor Inn, Wednesday, August 21st from 8-11am.

Harvest Festival Queen Applications

Preparation for the 2013 Harvest Festival Queen competition is underway and applications are now being accepted.

The Harvest Festival Queen Pageant is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, 2013.

Applications can be picked up at the Ludington & Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce office and the City of Scottville or found online at www.ludington.org/scottville-harvest-festival.

The entry deadline is Friday, August 30, 2013.

In order to participate, contestants must be female between the ages of 16 and 20, single with no children, a resident of Mason County, and willing to meet new people and have fun.

Performing Arts will focus on creating a character; physically, vocally and emotionally. Then a short scene through improvisation will be created involving the characters. Start to observe the people around you for some fun ideas! Performing arts will be held on Monday, August 26th from 9 to 11am and, Tuesday, August 27th from 1-3pm at the Ludington Library.

at Northwest Michigan Works! Service Centers in Cadillac, Petoskey and Traverse City.

Within MiVirtualCareerFair, employers host exhibitor booths that include links to job postings, company profiles, employee benefits, and employer contact information, and allow job seekers to communicate one-on-one with company representatives. 2013 Brethren Days

The 2013 Annual Brethren Days
Friday, August 30th through Sunday, September 1st.

The charge for admission on both Friday and Saturday evening is $3 per person.  Children 12 and under are free with an adult; however, no one under the age of 16 is allowed in after 9pm without adult supervision.  

All bands and entertainment will be performing under the gazebo in the Dickson Township Park. 
The Cook Shack will be open, as well as the Beer Tent. 

Other activities for the weekend include Softball Tournaments, a Poker Run, a Cardboard Boat Race, Kids Games & Basketball Skills Clinic, Arts & Crafts Show, a Chicken BBQ, the Grand Parade, and of course, a fantastic fireworks display on Saturday night at dusk.

"Fly and Remember"

Calendar Art Contest

Children of all ages are invited to create a seasonal drawing to decorate a calendar page. Winning designs will be printed and sold at the Mason County District Libraries in Ludington and Scottville. Winners will receive one of the calendars they helped create. Artists must use the back of the entry form.

Gospel Meeting
